PORCH PASSAGES:
LIBERTY
African Heritage Cultural Arts Center | Miami, FL | 2025
Porch Passages is an architectural installation series that originated as Tulloch’s undergraduate architecture thesis at Cornell University, which received the Charles Goodwin Memorial Sands Medal (2021). The series takes form as outdoor and indoor installations and sculptures that honor social and material legacies of Miami’s Black and Caribbean neighborhoods, treating ornament, material, and tectonic detail as archives of creolized life. Tulloch’s practice centers collaborative fabrication, local authorship, and site-rooted design to render culture visible.
Porch Passages: Liberty abstracts the porch elements grillwork, seating, perforated panels, and awning into a durable civic object that invites sitting, listening, and public encounter. Originally conceived as a bus-stop intervention for the Liberty City segregation wall, the sculpture was developed through a Fringe Projects commission (2022) and is now situated at the Marshall L. Davis African Heritage Cultural Arts Center with support from Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places. This sculpture functions as a public stage for intergenerational testimony and community programming.
This artwork was fabricated by Haligon Fine Art Studio and made possible through Fringe Projects, Oolite Arts, the Knight Foundation, and Young Arts.
